Brood Mares
I’m very proud of my mares – each of them is good natured, athletic and very well-bred. Please click on their names, to be taken to their individual pages.
Espinette has had 4 fillies and 3 colts. First, “Wilde Honige” by Weltregent (Weltmeyer / Donnerhall / Pik Bube) was selected Champion Hanoverian Foal 2000. Honey’s first foal was selected Reserve Champion Hanoverian Foal 2007. Espinette’s second filly “Lasting Impression” did not attend the 2006 inspections, due to her young age, but she is outstanding for movement, conformation and character. In her first competition season she placed 1st and second at her Dressage debut, and finished Division Champion in eventing. The 2009 filly “Shining Bright” was top of her small foal group and designated “Premium” by the GOV. Espinette’s 2008 colt “Word of Honour” by Widmark was a dream to start and purchased by his 1st “visitor”, who fell in love with his temperament and rideability. “StarPower,” Espinette’s 2010 son from Starlight is a big, bold, black-and-chrome dressage prospect, SOLD to USA, while “Favourite Game” from 2013 was renamed “Wee Fergus” and SOLD to an excellent home in NB. Ellie’s June 2014 filly (foal # 7) by Sir Gregory is a stunner – so elegant and feminine. Stella was sold, in-utero, to the owner of 1/2 sib, Lasting Impression. At her Hanoverian inspection, Sonnentanz was Co-Reserve Champion Dressage Foal, and Top Filly. In 2015 Sonnentanz entered an AHS Yearling Futurity Class – and walked away the winner, scoring 8.5 for her trot. We are delighted with the sassy Sir Gregory filly that Espinette delivered this May, 2017, after the sad loss of her 2016 Sir Gregory colt, born prematurely. Starlet was SOLD, in-utero. We will try for one more Sir Gregory foal before retiring Espinette in 2018. Update (Jan. 28 / 18), with great sorrow we watched Espinette loose her last foal, at 8 months gestation. She is being watched and treated, and we will ensure a happy retirement for her.
SPS Ester has a full sister who is also SPS; and she has given me the 2 beautiful fillies “Contessa”, by Contendro and “After Hours” by Autocrat, as well as the excellent colt “Future Perfect” by Fabuleux, who was selected Champion Hanoverian Foal 2005. Ester’s typey 2008 filly “Royal Balance” was sold immediately after birth to the home of 2 other Sunny Days alumni. Ester’s talented 2010 Wolkenglanz filly “Wred Alert” was SOLD to a Grand Prix rider in California. Her handsome, friendly “Rocketman“, her last foal of 2012, by Rubignon, just found his perfect partner in a 15 year old dressage enthusiast. We lost Ester at 27 years of age, on January 24, 2017. RIP, beloved girl.
SPS Ditana from an SPS mother, and with three SPS half-sisters, has given us nine beauties. “Royal Mischief” by Rascalino is a confident, easy lad, undersaddle now in New Jersey,; the feminine, graceful “Holeandra” by Hotline – a top filly at her 2007 Inspection was 8th in the USA 4-year-old Young Horse Championships. Di’s 2008 filly, “Free to Be” by Fidertanz was a Final Ring foal at her 2008 inspection; “Fuerst Gemini” was designated a dressage Stallion Prospect and Champion Hanoverian Foal 2009. Di’s 2010 “HoneyBee” by Hotline, has gone to a great home in Quebec, where she is much adored, while her Quaterback colt of 2011 is in an Ontario dressage home, and 2012 “Wavin’ Flag” by Wolkentanz Ii was SOLD to Florida. In 2016 Ditana delivered a handsome, athletic colt by Blue Hors Romanov. We love him! He SOLD, before weaning, as a competition / breeding prospect, to a Quebec Professional. Ditana just gave us the most beautiful For Romance colt this May, 2017. Foreign Affairs was SOLD in-utero to California – and was subsequently recognized as the “Canadian Champion Dressage Foal 2017”, winning the Albert Kley Memorial Foal Award, as best on the 2017 Inspection Tour. Ditana’s 2018 Morricone filly is spectacular – beautiful type, correct, balletic and with a “look at me” air that compliments her ready engagement. SOLD to Ontario dressage rider.
Contessa had her first foal in 2007. “Sonnenschein” by Sir Donnerhall was chosen Best Filly 2007 at her inspection. Her 2nd foal, “Royal Gala” by Romanov, was selected Champion Foal 2008 at her inspection, and her third foal, a colt by Sir Donnerhall, was proclaimed Champion Hanoverian Dressage Foal 2010. Tessa’s 2011 Sir Donnerhall colt “Sesame Street” sold quickly to an Ontario dressage home, while her 2012 Sir Donnerhall was Champion Dressage Foal 2012 at the large Parkwood inspection, and is now with a former member of Canada’s “Young Rider Team”. Sugar Baby was home-branded in 2013, and this talented sprite is FOR SALE. In May 2015 Contessa delivered a dashing colt by the incomparable Sezuan (Zack / Don Shufro), who had been sold, in-utero, to Washington, USA. In 2016 Contessa presented a beautiful dynamic colt “Formula One” by Licensing Champion, For Romance. He has been SOLD, as a breeding prospect, to California. Contessa’s 2018 colt by Zonik was an Albert Kley “TOP TEN FOAL, 2018” and also a Hanoverian Verband Gold Medal Foal.
EM Chenya We welcome this full sister of the phenomenal “Cabana-Boy” to our mare-band. Bred by Shannon Langer of Maple Run Farm, this proven broodmare gave us an exquisite Furstenball filly “Furstentanz“, in May 2017. She SOLD immediately to a close neighbour, and went on to becoming Reserve Champion Dressage Foal at Inspection, and achieving recognition as a “Top Ten Foal for Canada” in 2017. In 2018 Chenya delivered her first-ever colt – a strong powerful bay by Buckingham, subsequently sold to a dressage trainer / rider in Quebec. In 2019 we eagerly look forward to a full-sibling to 2017’s Furstenball filly.
SPS Bella Vista An exciting addition to our breeding program, Bella Vista is by Belissimo, from a Florestan / Rubinstein damline. This beauty was Vice Champion of the 2011 Westfalen Mare Show, and is carrying a foal by the exciting stallion “Zoom” by Zack / Don Schufro. This is the first Zoom-baby born in North America, and flashy “Ziya” sold quickly to a wonderful South Carolina home.
In 2019 Ditana’s D’Avie filly “D’a Bella”, was awarded “Gold Medal foal” status and attained the TOP TEN Foal list for Canada. Bella failed to conceive for 2020, but delivered a beautiful athletic colt by Don Olymbrio in April, 2021. For 2022 she is confirmed in foal to Champion Stallion “Just Winphof”
Giada I lapsed in my intent to downsize, when I fell in love with the voluptuous Gold Luck daughter Giada (aka “Gigi”). Gigi had a brief but stellar dressage career before coming to SunnyDays to start a new adventure as a broodmare. In 2018 Giada gave us a beautiful black filly by SPT Champion Romeo, by Romanov, who sold quickly to a dressage home near Chicago IL.. In April 2019 we eagerly anticipate her Finest foal.
Windsong Born here at SunnyDays Hanoverians, Windsong is back on a one-year breeding lease. Winnie produced a strapping, masculine powerhouse colt by Sir Gregory at the beginning of June, 2017. We are very happy with Skibereen, who is SOLD to South Carolina.
Free-To-Be is a homebred, newly returned to SunnyDaysHanoverians. She is by Fidertanz from SPS Ditana, our Don Bosco / SPS Prince Orac xx daughter. We re-acquired her in 2013, and bred her to Fabregas (Florencio / DeNiro). The resulting colt (May 2014) is outstanding, and sold to the USA at 2 weeks of age, so Free To Be was rebred to Fabregas for a full sibling, born May 2015. Freebie’s Flying Colours was selected Champion Hanoverian Foal 2014 at his large (22 candidates) Foal Inspection; Flying Machine from 2015 was selected Champion Dressage Colt when his 2015 inspection rolled around. In October 2016 Freebie left SunnyDays to join Shannon Brooks’ Little River Hanoverians broodmare band. (More downsizing). I will miss her but am happy she is with Shannon, and an old SunnyDays alumna, Diamond Dayz (Daisy) who is also one of Shannon’s girls. While at the 2017 Maritimes Hanoverian Inspection, the Fabregas filly “Flying Free” achieved recognition as Reserve Champion Dressage Foal, and was subsequently awarded “Top Ten Foal 2017” for all of Canada.
SPS Shakira was imported to join the mareband in September 2014. Still young, she has thus far produced two Dancier daughters — one mare for the sport plus the 3 year old Premium Mare “Daira” who joined the elite ranks at the Herwart v d Decken Shau 2014. A two year old colt by Destano (Desperados / Brentano) was purchased as a stallion prospect, and Shakira has delivered his full sister this April, 2015. See Delilah for details. Her 2016 filly by For Romance is sensational and SOLD early on to a competition / breeding home in Quebec.
As part of my downsizing, I have SOLD this very sweet mare to a Kentucky home, her “forever home” I hope, where her owner will value her and produce many more exceptional foals for the Hanoverian breed.
After Hours, our homebred by Autocrat (bringing A-line, and Matcho blood to the table) out of SPS Ester, had a very good inspection report, and has given us two sweet and easy Belissimo foals and a super Romanov colt. Angel has been sold, as part of my downsizing.
EM Bretania (RIP 2009), who has three full sisters with the SPS title, has given us four fillies. Her first, “Wingz” by Weltmeyer was Champion Mare at her studbook inspection; her second “Deirdre” by Donatelli went to Quebec, where she was in the ribbons in all her dressage competitions; her third “Sobella Hit” by Sandro Hit was one of 2 Final Ring fillies at the 2007 Inspections. Her fourth filly, “Sigur Ros”, full sister to Sobella, is a beauty with the most powerful and elastic trot and canter. She did not attend inspection, for logistical reasons, and joined her full sister at a great home in New Jersey. Bretania’s only colt to date, “Rhodeo” by Rhodes Scholar, was selected Champion Hanoverian Foal 2003. He proved to be a dream undersaddle, winning at second level, training 3rd at 6 years of age when he was sold to Germany.
